To give you a sense of what it’s like to be me, today I spent the better part of an hour just staring at the waves crashing into the rocks. I was contemplating, as I often do: what should I do with my life? what really matters? what is important to me? And I was thinking about love and how it comes and goes in my life, how I feel about that, and what it might mean.
But much of the time was spent simply appreciating how mind-boggling it is that I am here at all — a conscious mind standing on the shores of a planet orbiting a sun in the milky way galaxy (one of hundreds of billions), aware of such beauty and thinking these thoughts. Imagine all the billions of years and billions of things that had to go exactly right for this to happen — it’s astonishing and humbling to say the least.
